The Connected World

The current trends and advances in information, communication and networking give rise, at both local and global levels, to a future universal human condition that one may concisely characterize as “the connected world”. Today, many of us can already see the contours of such a world, but significant developments of the networked society still lie ahead of us. This is not just a matter of technological change, but also of substantial personal, economic and societal implications, needs and concerns relevant to us all – and so they must be considered and discussed publicly at large.

The Network Institute therefore carries out a strongly interdisciplinary and integrative research programme “The Connected World” focused on these issues. Focal topics are: networked innovation, self-organization, service science, and network collaboration. The Network Institute endeavours to make its research results and insights available for scrutiny, learning, and public discussion in a variety of meetings and events, in collaboration with partners from industry and society.
